Styles of IEEE Format Citation

The IEEE citation style can be used for any type of content, such as books and journals. However, the format does not include the author's name or date published in-text as other styles do.

IEEE citation is different from APA and MLA. The person's name and date of publication are not put in the text, but instead, there is a number in front of it. This number goes with the reference list at the end.

IEEE In-Text Citation

In an IEEE-style paper, it is not necessary that the student or writer add all of these details like author's name, publication date, and reference number in square brackets. Instead, we can use parenthesis for citable citations, which refer back to your complete bibliography at the end with a references list.

Following is the IEEE Citation Style Guideline for in-text citation:

Add the citation in the brackets in front of the relevant phrase or sentence. Add it before any punctuation, and make sure that you have added a space before the first bracket.
Always list the source and then give it a number. You can always say the number after that to talk about this later.
In case you are using multiple sources, name them separately and in their own brackets. For example: [1], [2], or [3] - [6].
When citing secondary sources, mention the original source. If you have read William’s work in Jason's book, then refer to the book name.

“Hence provided after experimentation results have deviated as said in the hypothesis [6].”

IEEE Citation Reference List Format

References will be listed at the end of your document. There should be one for every source you used, and it should start with the last letter of the author's last name. Then it should have a number that tells how many times they are referenced in your paper.

While writing the reference page, keep in account the following points:

The title of the list will be References. The list will be centered or aligned on the left side at the top of the page.
Each reference will be added with a hanging indent. The bracketed number will be flushed to the left side of the paper. This makes it easier for you to find the reference list in order (1,2,3).
The author's name is written in the first initial, last name style. For example, Henry john will be written as H. John
The main title of an article is written in quotation marks. The name or main title of the journal or book is added in italics.

Citations is important for academic papers. When citing an online source, it's essential to be mindful of how you cite your sources and what differentiates one citation from another so that readers know where their information came from without having trouble following along!

Here are some important citation rules to follow when citing a website or an online document:

The number of references, initial of your first and last names separated by "M.P." (or initials)
The main title is in italics with no quotation marks around it if not handwritten
Publisher's name followed by year-date accessed ?[Online]
Online sources should include a hyperlink so that readers can easily access them without having trouble finding where they found this information.
